Reflection and Luster

When light falls on the fiber, part of light is reflected. The luster of a single fiber is determined by the total visual appearance of these reflections from the fiber surface. It is directly proportional to the amount of light reflected by a fiber. Silk fibers has a high luster and cotton has low luster.

Calendering | Factors Effecting Calendering | Calendering Machine Construction

Calendering | Factors Effecting  Calendering | Calendering Machine Construction Calendering With the simultaneous action of temperature, force and moisture, the surface of the textile substrate are modified. This simultaneous action is called calendering. Calendering in textile may simply be achieved while passing the textile substrate in between two heated drums or rollers. The rotation speed […]

A step towards space | Spacesuit in Textiles

A step towards space | Spacesuit in Textiles Man has the passion to uncover the hidden mysteries from ancient time. This nature provoked him to discover beyond the sky. But, that was never easy to go beyond the sky to reach the space. People took a lot of steps to reach the space. At initial […]

Softwares Used in Textile Industries

Softwares Used in Textile Industries As technology is advancing so a lot softwares are now used is textile industry in every stage of the production. So as a TEXTILE ENGINEER we should know the names and functions of the commonly used softwares in textile industries. Some popular software, which are vastly used in Textile & Apparel […]

Softwares Used In Cotton Ginning, Classing, Trading

Application Of Different Software In Cotton Ginning, Classing, Trading:  Modern industries often operate with sensors by Uster, to control the process and resulting fiber quality. Cotton classing is required to measure and classify each cotton bale according to their specific physical attributes. Measurement is produced by Uster HVI (High Volume Instrument). Application Of Different Software […]

Potential of “CARBON FIBER” for being the Future Material in the Domain of Technical Application

Potential of “CARBON FIBER” for being the Future Material in the Domain of Technical Application Ishmam Zahin Chowdhury, Bangladesh University of Textiles  Ahamed Hossain Bappy, Bangladesh University of Textiles    Carbon fiber, by far the most widely used technical fiber in high performance applications, is now paving its way to the previously metal dominated fields. […]

Light Fastness and Factors Influencing Light Fastness Behavior

Light Fastness and Factors Influencing Light Fastness Behavior Textile Dyes and Pigments used in the industry vary to a great extent in terms of their resistance to light sources and this phenomenon is called as ‘Light-fastness of Textiles’. Sunlight materials emits electromagnetic radiations of several wavelengths. Visible range of spectrum (400 – 700 nm) , […]

Basic Concept of Combing Process | Types of Comber Machine

Combing is the process that removes the final proportion of short fibers, neps and others impurities such as vegetable matter and seed coat fragments in cotton that has already been carded. Combed yarns are superior in quality when compared to carded yarn as they are generally finer, stronger, smoother and more uniform due to the removal of short fibers and the alignment of fibers.

Birefringence | Fiber Birefringence

The difference between the refractive index indices of the fiber in a direction at parallel to the fiber axis and in a direction at right angles to the fiber axis is called birefringence of that fiber. Birefringence is responsible for the phenomenon of double reflection.

Optical Properties of Textile Fibers

Part 1: Optical Properties of Textile Fibers Part 2: Birefringence | Fiber Birefringence Part 3: Reflection and Luster Optical Properties of Textile Fibers Optical Properties When light falls on a fiber, it may be partly transmitted, absorbed or reflected, depending on the structure of the light. The transmission, reflection and absorption of light determine the […]
